The New Amersham Station Bridge
That Did Not Happen

In the May of 2009 a planning application was made to build a new bridge at Amersham Station incorporating lifts.  Work started in the summer of 2009.

The station forecourt was closed to traffic and a number of cabins erected to form the site office.

Hordings were put up at the end of the platforms and the foundations for the new bridge started.

Unfortunately, in September 2009 work stopped.  The budget allocated for the work was re assigned to other projects owing to cutbacks.  All the work that had been done had to be reversed putting the site back to the way prior to the works starting.

Had the bridge been completed, it would have looked like the above artist's impression.  A campaign has been began to get a lift and new bridge for the station as the current original bridge is cramped busy at peak times and hard to use with heavy luggage and push chairs at all times.
